The G-HOST report of The Hum Hip Hop Project
“We call this “Hum” Hip Hop cause it belongs to all of us, how we grow it depends on us. Not as an Individual but to build the scene itself together, with each-other. If we are not united, we might never be able to bring real Hip Hop in its full force to India. But, if we succeed… if we succeed…”
It all started in August, the first edition featured the infamous Machas With Attitude (M.W.A)/Low Rhyderz combination. Before we realized it, the second edition came with Rinosh & Gubbi bringing Kannada and R&B and Indian 777 bringing raw flavour to the mix. And now, it will be the 3rd edition this coming week, featuring a fresh line up, it grows exponentially as we speak. The first of the “good news” came as, Vachan Chinnappa, one of the most renowned DJs in the scene. I literally spoke about this project to him when I was playing cricket with him, it brings me great joy to see him on this. Its amazing how one genre can bring together so many people when we look back what we have done. The Second was Young dirrt and URMI, i’ve watched these guys perform for years now. Young Dirrt according to me has all the skills needed to kill, one of the strongest entities i’ve seen behind the microphone.
Dude picks up a mic stand to perform and is one of the first rappers in the Bangalore scene to pull it off well, props and pleasure having him on board. URMI, the other rapper is going to be a legend, i’ve not been impressed with someone so immensely in a long time, he has beautiful delivery, a strong lyrical ability that i’m sure will surprise you. The final edition was Slyck, i’ve known this dude right back from the days of Two Shades, we all locked horns with each-other as crews after all. Slyck has a unique sound to him, he writes rich content and flows on point, makes him the cream of the crop, looking forward to seeing him on stage. As Smokey the Ghost, hosting this platform has been fun and gorgeous to put together, with MTV-Indies unexpectedly accepting to be involved, as inevitable as it may have seemed, Hip Hop grows.
