The new song which by now would have been heard in every North Indian club is Baar Baar Dekho’s ‘Kala Chashma’. The song, which features Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra, is probably going to be a huge party anthem but the question is why a remake again ? Bollywood is running short on ideas and concepts and have always lacked creativity (Google who Anu Malik is), this is just a new version which has Badshah rapping in it.
For those who are unaware, Kala Chashma is the reworked, retuned version of the punjabi folk hit ‘Tenu kala chasma jach da eh’. There are plenty examples when Bollywood has done this time and again, ‘Chull’ (Kapoor and Sons) and ‘Saturday’ (Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya), ‘Soch Na Sake’ (Airlift) and ‘Tung Tung Baje’ (Singh is Bliing). There is also ‘Tamil Fever’, ‘Gud Naalon Ishq Mitha’ and ‘Zaroori Tha’. These re-worked versions of the ancient hits try to revive the audience thinking they are still stuck in yesteryear.
‘Kala Chashma’ is composed and recreated by Badshah, with vocals of Amar Arshi and Neha Kakkar. Badshah is the reason behind songs like ‘Ladki kar gai chull’, ‘Abhi toh party shuru hui hai’, ‘Saturday-Saturday’ and ‘Dhup chik hori se’. All of the mentioned songs are chart busters and were the rationale why Yo Yo Honey Singh was replaced.
Badshah is a very dynamic and versatile artist who is respected in the underground as well as the mainstream. We wonder what could possibly be the inspiration behind such a move. Is Bollywood genuinely running short on ideas, this is something perhaps only time will tell.
