Motivation, Dreams, Globalization. Hip Hop.
The song has a flavor of the Indonesian traditional ensemble Gamelan mixed with today’s urban Hip Hop. The song is about elevating towards a life of success. It’s about having the motivation and drive to make it to the top, regardless of all the challenges you face. Hip Hop, the genre of music, essentially went through this struggle over the years to get to the top. A genre of music that was born in the ’60s and ’70s, struggled to get acceptance until the ’90s. And even then, it was written off and regarded as a genre that is mainly ‘underground’. Today, through the struggles of Hip Hop, the music has spread from continent to continent. Today, after long hours of hard work by individuals, there are talented Hip Hop artists and equally dedicated fans from Europe, to the Middle East, to Africa, to Asia. And this new song, Higher, is a great example of Hip Hop’s globalization. Liquidsilva – a Canadian-Desi, who spent numerous years in Australia, Germany, and Brazil – linked up with a talented Indonesian artist, Lady Gan. This sort of global collaboration deserves some respect, as it brings us all closer together. After all, we are all humans facing the same troubles, challenges, solutions, feelings, and needs in life. And we all need a bit of motivation to push us to the right direction.
