Kauratan Invades the Desi Hip Hop Scene With A Fresh New Banger

The DesiHipHop music scene is one that surprised the world with its ingenuity more than a decade ago. Since then, a lot has changed. With an influx of rappers, emcees, DJs, Bboys (& Bgirls), came an influx of Desi Hip Hop fans. Now, the genre is taking yet another shift with the introduction of female emcees (or femcees). Femcees like Femcee Evil, Dee MC, and MC Kaur has blessed the scene with their presence in the past couple of years; now they are joined by Kauratan.

Hip Hop is a genre that allows any one and everyone to express themselves. With the power of words, people all over the world can grab a mic and express their true feelings, challenges, problems, and solutions. With the rise of femcees, the industry can only grow and improve. In South Asia, as women continue to break the mold and stand out with their individuality, it’s high time that female rappers grabbed the mic and shared their experiences with the world. Needless to say, the industry and the region definitely needs more femcees like Kauratan. So, who is Kauratan?

Kauratan is from Meerut (UP). A few of years ago, she went to Delhi for her education. Since then, she has been living in Delhi and currently works as a Marketing Manager for a real estate firm. Her passion lies in art – from dancing to music, she’s done everything she can to clench the thirst of performance! Her latest music video is one that is bound to make heads turn, as the Femcee takes on the mic and showcases her talents to the world. Check it out below, you won’t be disappointed!

Sikander Kahlon is my motivation as what he is doing is real and unique. My love for Desi Hip Hop and Rap convinced me to write. I have written in Punjabi, Hindi as well as English. My first Punjabi Rap Music Video – INVASION 2015 will answer a lot of your questions as it is not a party song. It is my story my way.

Q: What prompted you to make this song INVASION ? Anyone inspired you ?

Needless to say that Hard Kaur had struck me right from the beginning. Her attitude, style and idea of doing Hip Hop music in Bollywood actually changed a lot of prejudices. Big Ups to Hard Kaur as she is a symbol of women power in music industry.
I mostly follow all the Rap Artists who do Desi Hip Hop. Hard Kaur, Bohemia, Badshah, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Raftaar – everyone has a unique style that inspires me in some or the other way.

Invasion is my story. I have written every kind but I wanted to tell people my story first. Being a Kaur I wanted to do it in Punjabi.

Q: I saw a little glimpse of Sikander Kahlon at the end of the video, Is he your friend or is he the one to bring you into DesiHipHop scene ?

Sikander Kahlon is a motivation. I have been following him on youtube for quite a long. I find him so real and unique that I felt like connecting with him on facebook and we met after that. I told him that I have been writing and really want to drop music videos now. He motivated me and helped me in what so ever way he could. He listened to some of my raps and helped me record my first solo. We recorded Invasion at Rob C’s studio. Sikander truely is a genuine soul. Big Shout Out to KKG

Q: After reading your about me on your Facebook page, i saw that you are into hiphop and belly dancing, how long you have been doing that ? What are your current plans with it ?

I have been a dancer from childhood and Dance and Music go hand in hand. I started off with Hip Hop Dancing in college ( 2007 ). That’s how Hip Hop music happened to me. Belly Dancing came in a little later when I met Meher Malik. I have also been on India’s Got Talent Khoj 2 as part of Banjara School Of Dance (Belly Dancing group).
I was not practising dance from the last 4 years because of my daily work schedule. I am very proud of the fact that I have been a dancer from the very beginning and yes I have plans to enhance this art in me in future.

Q: What do you do right now for living ?

I am working as a Marketing Manager ( Branding ) with a real estate setup based out of Gurgaon. I have been into marketing communications from last 6 years.

Q: Are you looking to collaborate with other mainstream or underground artists in future ?

Yes definitely. There is a lot in the pipeline. It’s just the beginning.

Q: I think you are the first #Femcee in north side and people will expect something different and unique from you, What plans you have to show them all the real you ?
