guru lahori and farasat anees - laung gawacha

I have been following the Pakistani underground scene for quite some time and it is having some heavy duty performing emcees. Guru Lahori is one of them and at the forefront of the movement.

My previous conversations with Guru have always hinted me that he is someone who is very versatile and open to trying different concepts. As an artist I think it is important to have a versatile catalogue and Guru Lahori‘s latest track cements my claim. Laung Gawacha is an experimental EDM track which has various traditional Pakistani instruments fused alongside a trap vibe. Farasat Anees has done a superb job on the production and the composition as well. Farasat has been making music for quite some time and has his own following due to his unique flavor.

There are not many emcees or artists who dare to enter such fusion genres and has a relatively niche audience. I would definitely watch out for more music from this duo.

I caught up with both of these artists and below is how our conversation went.

Q1. What was the idea behind the new track ?

Farasat Anees sent me the beat and he told me where he needed some vocals. I just tried to do the beat justice.

I think Farasat Anees is amongst the newer generation of producers that will make a name for himself not only Pakistan but around the world. He is very talented in his art. You can definitely expect more from us in the future.

Q3. The Pakistani Rappers are going super hard these days, any thoughts about that ?

All i can say is, its about time. Im sure there is a lot more talent out there, just not discovered yet. I Look forward to the rap/hip-hop culture growing in Pakistan in the coming years and without a doubt i will all i can to make sure it does.

Q4.Thoughts on the industry and where you think the desi hip hop movement is going ?

I think we are at a great place at the moment. Desihiphop/Punjabi rap is quite popular and the genre seems to be expanding, the content you guys post is proof of that.

Other then the ongoing B.E.G (Blackeyegalaxy) content, I am also working on a few other collaborations with artists from Pakistan, India and the UK. The album is currently in the planning. Hopefully by next year i can put it out. However, Mehfil Vol. 2 is going to be out pretty soon ! So watch out for that for sure !
