What began online as a forum for music collaboration in early 2010 has now turned into a hub and platform for up-and-coming artists from all around California. One reason for the buzz is the “TeamBackpack Cypher Series,” which is already in its 4th season. Over the past two years, TeamBackpack has held cypher events in which the best Bay Area emcees spit their hottest 16 bars on originally produced beats. With three to four people on a beat, these sessions are filmed live and brought to the Internet for a worldwide audience. Fans can login, interact and vote for who they thought had the best verse. By bringing together a wide array of emcees and producers, TeamBackpack has created a growing fan base, as well as community of musicians, photographers, designers, and film people to network, build their portfolios, and create/enjoy great pieces of art.
