“I Will Never Turn Myself Into A Commercial Whore” – Rap Demon

,

Abdullah Malik has a reputation of dropping some of the deadliest tracks in the underground and is more popularly named as Rap Demon. His previous releases like ‘Kill ’em with Kindness‘, ‘Sounds From Underground‘ and others are on a level that most of the underground artists struggle to reach. He started climbing the steps towards his current level of reputation 3 years ago and one of my favorite track is ‘Shell Shocked (Punjabi Remix)‘ with Guru Lahori, there are tons of other songs like ‘Taliban Swag‘ ‘Salvo‘ ‘Tu Ne Mere Jana‘ with Young Stunners which got over 500k plays on Soundcloud.

Rap Demon announced his forthcoming release, ‘Warm Up Session‘, a few days ago on his social media links. His fans, as usual, can not wait for it to drop soon enough. Considered as one of the handsome looking underground artists, Abdullah never tries to take a step back when it comes to dropping a video. This guy is a one man army and he manifested that by creating this track.

To maintain the hype and to settle down some questions from his fans, I’m going to tell you how this track was made. Abdullah produced the instrumental used on the track himself including the work related with the mixing and mastering. The video which is coming out on our website really soon was also shot and edited by him.

To know more about him and the controversies he was involved in, I decided to talk to him and get the answers that you all wanted to know. Here’s how my chat went with him.

“No one is worthy enough for me to get a full diss track from my side.”

San Cha – Your Fans Always Starve For Your Music. Why Did You Take A Break?

Rap Demon – I didn’t do it on purpose but yes, I took long enough. It’s just that once you have the spotlight on your head, you’re in the eyes of the people who expect more and more from you. You have to elevate your levels to some degrees to match their expectations. That’s what took the time.

San Cha – What Made You Name The Track ‘Warm Up Session’ ? What Are You Warming Up For?

Rap Demon – It’s not a title that I created. The Hip-Hop heads must be well aware of the term. It is a one-take, completely raw, freestyle/free verse that you can spit with or without a beat. You can record it properly or just do it on a video or whatsoever. So, basically it’s not a proper ‘TRACK’ and this is what my ‘Warm Up Session‘ is. I recorded it in one go and shot it afterwards.

San Cha – Recently, Your Fans Were Sharing A News That You And BCL Blade Are Beefing. They Still Comment That You Can Body Him. What Actually Happened?
Rap Demon – Haha. I would not call it a beef but shit happened. I’d rather not waste any more of my time debating on this but “Thora barha kar soch nu, Na dara kar, Navva banda aunda uttay, Phattay tuaadi dharaadhar”. This bar from my last release (Kill ‘Em With Kindness) explains what happened.

About bodying the guy with bars, BCL Blade isn’t an Emcee or anything even close to being one. Why would I waste my time on dissing? Plus in my eyes, no one is worthy enough to get a full diss track from my side.

San Cha – It is said that “There’s No Unity In The Desi Rap Scene”. What’s Your Take On This Statement And Why ?

Rap Demon – Look, there are ups and downs between clans, crews, squads or whatsoever but that’s just a part of the culture and tell me, where is the fun if there is no heat? ‘NO UNITY’ I’d not agree to this. The amount of love I have gained from my fellow artists, fans and supporters across the border is amazing and that wouldn’t have been possible if it was not for Desi Rap Scene or Desi Hip-Hop.

San Cha – Who Do You Think Is The Wackest and The Dopest Rapper From Pakistan’s Underground Scene ?

Rap Demon – Woah! I can not f**king name one. There’re so many of them and no one even knows their names. The dopest? Of course me. No f**king doubt about that.

San Cha – “Going Commercial Is The Key To Success”. Do You Have Plans Of  Turning Into A Commercial Artist Soon ?

Rap Demon – A commercial artist? No! But do a couple of commercial tracks? Yes. I’ve never bound myself to a single thing and honestly, I think versatility is the key. We, the Hip-Hop artists from Pakistan and India know our audiences very well. We know what they like and doing something they demand once in a while, there’s nothing wrong with it. As a matter of fact, I ‘d suggest that everyone should do a commercial track. But, turning a commercial whore? Never! Hip-Hop till I die.

San Cha – There’s A Camp Type Situation In Pakistan’s Underground. You, Guru Lahori and Artists Who’re Related To Both Of  You Are Considered As One. Artists Who Support Dar Are Considered As Your Rivals By General Audiences. Don’t You Think It’s A Hurdle In The Growth Of  Your Overall Underground Scene ?

Rap Demon – Fuss! All fuss. Look, Guru Lahori is my boy and I’ve loved his music since day one. If I love his music or if I support him, that has nothing to do with me not liking the other guys. It’s apparent that I don’t like them and I say it bluntly but that has nothing to do with Guru. I’ve my own reasons.

But yes, to answer your question, it can be both good and bad for the overall growth as it also keeps the scene heated and active but again, such things also become a great hurdle in an artist’s growth.

San Cha – What Are Your Expectations From Your ‘Warm Up Session’ and What’s Coming Next For Your Fans ?

Rap Demon – I made this track in a day. Recorded, mixed, shot and edited the video all by myself. As in the start, you asked me about why I take so long; The reason for making and throwing this track was that my last track was released two months ago. My people, my fans and supporters who’re like family to me were constantly reaching out to me everywhere, in my inbox, asking for something. So, I just made this Warm Up Session to satisfy their hunger for a while. Although, this one is really important to me as I’ve fully produced this myself from the scratch i.e (Beat bhi mene khud bnayi hai). So yeah! Let’s see.

San Cha – Any Message For Your Fans ?

Rap Demon – Thank you so much. I am what I am and will be what I will be because of you guys. Keep loving and keep supporting. Special thanks to my peeps from across the border i.e from India. You guys are love and ever since my last release, you guys have been amazing. #Bang
