Naved Sheikh, more popularly known to people by his stage name ‘Naezy’ is considered one of the most versatile rappers in the scene right now. Naezy’s journey in hip-hop started at a very young age of 13 years, when he heard Sean Paul’s ‘Temperature’, he liked the song to the extent that he started learning it and throwing verses from the song which instantly made him popular among his friends.

He hails from one of the most notorious ‘chawls’ of Kurla (W), Mumbai, or as he likes to call it, signifying its pin code, Bombay 70. He spent the first 15 years of his life there before shifting to a different colony in the same area. In an interview, Naezy said that he wanted to showcase the experiences of his childhood through his music and wants to open the eyes of his people from the chawl he used to live in through his rap. He wants them to stop the illegal things they do and become a responsible society.

Naezy’s public performances started when he was in his first year of his Bachelor of Science. He started doing cyphers and freestyle rap. In an audition during college, he found some other people who were also interested in hip-hop; So they formed a crew and named it ‘The Schizophrenic’.

Naezy’s journey to fame and success started when he released his first song ‘Aafat’(2014) on YouTube which was shot on an iPad. It became an instant hit and has more than 5 lakh views on YouTube making him the subject of the documentary ‘Bombay 70’ and got him a deal from Only Much Louder (OML), one of India’s biggest alternative culture promoter and management agency.

His raps are mostly on issues of society like poverty, corruption etc. He urges the youth to raise their voice against injustice and fight for the change they want to see. His story of rap-to-riches is the inspiration behind Zoya Akhtar’s next project, ‘Gully Boy’. The picture will also feature his fellow rapper Divine.

Naezy still has a long way to go. His work is raw, aggressive and has a lot of positive energy and reality in it. This is what has been responsible for his quick rise and a steadily growing fan base.
