Rap Music Is Not Just About Dissing!

The word ‘RAP’ stands for ‘Rhythm And Poetry’ and has been in use for centuries. Formed in the United States in the 1970s, it consists of a stylised rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhyming speech that is chanted. It developed as part of the hip-hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, break dancing, and graffiti writing.Other elements include sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing.

During the early days, RAP music was used to portray a situation or to convey a message. The artists were known for mixing the political and social commentary of political rap with the criminal elements and crime stories found in gangsta rap.

With the change in time, Rap music also evolved. Rap music now has become more about money, power, babes, rides and what not. Rappers now days try less to convey a social message and try more to Diss fellow artists. This trend of ‘Dissing’ has now made it to India and its Subcontinent. With the growth of rap talents, there is also a growth of disrespect and high competition to be in the rap scene.

Artists have forgotten the main purpose of rap music that is awareness, equality and togetherness and are focused more on dissing another artist.

They might be having their personal problems with the other rap artist or anyone else and it is okay to make a diss song but to some extent. As we know overdoing of anything is always harmful and has a negative impact.

Rap music has gained a huge audience and people are listening to it as they can relate it to their own life, but making diss songs are also influencing such audience. The artist might be making a song on his/her personal feelings but the listeners don’t think about that and take it in artistic view (if they do then they be artist themselves) and which leads to hatred and jealousy in that listener’s mind.

We all are living in the world where there is enough hatred present and making such music does no good for the society. Music was seen and always has been seen as a key of togetherness as people from every part of the world can connect through it. With the Rap music on the growth now, let us all make songs which truly defines the meaning of music and contribute to the society by spreading love, awareness, motivation and togetherness that will be carried on by the young coming generations.
