Raja Kumari is back again with another song “Believe In You“, to change what you think of South Asians in the music industry. She is one of the very few Desi artists in the US to have been signed by a label, no less a major like Epic Records. Her last track “Mute” came out with a bang and took over the scene is seconds and VH1 India has had it on loop since then.
Growing up in a South Indian family settled in California, she was surrounded by classical tunes and A.R. Rahman‘s compositions. RK started training for Indian classical dance at a very early age. Her commitment to her art of dance was deep and she trained for 4-5 hours a day and that alone has an impressive impact on everything she does today. She toured India performing classical dance when she was younger and has always been a performer at heart. It wasn’t till she was 15 that she began making her own music.
Raja Kumari has worked with and written for famous artists in the past such as Fall Out Boy’s, Iggy Azalea, Gwen Stefani, Fifth Harmony, Timberland and also received this year’s BMI Pop Award May 10 for Fall Out Boy’s 2014 song ‘Centuries‘. Her success was celebrated behind the scenes but with her last track “Mute” featuring Elvis Brown, she has stepped into her life’s new musical chapter.
Her album “The Come Up” is coming soon but until then her new release, “Believe In You” is out. She has combined her two passions- music and classical dance. The video is beautifully made expressing who she is and what this means to her, clips of her performances from her childhood, the set, the costume, and the feels. Redefining Hip-Hop, this is Raja Kumari’s latest track directed by Shawn Thomas and produced by Jules Wolfson.
