Desi Hip Hop Hits The Catwalk at Lakmé Fashion Week

When almost everything seeking a desi hip-hop endorsement then why wouldn’t fashion? Lakmé Fashion Week is a yearly affair which has various models and celebs walking the ramp and rocking selective famous designer’s clothes. It also features various Bollywood actors and a lucky few turn out to be the show stoppers. This time we saw Kareena Kapoor and Urvashi Rautela rocking the event with their charisma.

Well, we aren’t concerned with any Bollywood stars but with our very own crew from Bombay, ‘Swadesi‘ who walked the ramp.

MC Mawali, Shantanu, Robston and Joshua from the ‘Swadesi’ crew were spotted walking the ramp and killing it. They might be the first desi hip-hop artists to walk the ramp at Lakmé Fashion Week. The fashion designers were ‘Pero‘ by Aneeth Arora, Abraham & Thakore and Rajesh Pratap Singh. I guess they were approached because of the authenticity they maintain in their music and the videos.

Raja Mukherjee from Team INC told the following, “The theme was a sustainable man which suited ‘Swadesi’ as that’s the story of the crew and they are maintaining growth in their musical sense and content over the years. When the designers heard their songs and saw their videos they knew they had to have them feature in their collection and it was something that went organic and was a straight connection due to their widely appealing music the group has been creating over the past year which forces everyone to listen up and taking notice.” He further added, “So as I like to say #FromStreetstoTheRamp this is just another chapter in the beautiful story of ‘Swadesi’. Next is the KatalKalaa EP tour with Bandish Projekt. The first gig is in Humming Tree, which is on 18th Feb. Lots more coming up, the tour is being managed by me.

It was certainly refreshing to see familiar faces at this year’s Lakmé Fashion Week! We hope ‘Swadesi‘ have paved the way for more Desi Hip Hop artists to grace ramps at various fashion shows in India.
