If Converse could protect my feet during Winters, they could easily be among the best kicks that there are. Converse sneakers highly durable and can be worn dirty as well as clean. I prefer mine a little dirty for a more rugged look.
The history of Converse Sneakers can be traced back to 1900’s. Charles (Chuck) Taylor started wearing his own homemade shoe to basketball matches in 1917. He then became a salesman for the company where he improved the shoe’s designs. In the 1930s it was re-branded to ‘Chuck Taylor All Stars’ where the company decided to incorporate his name onto the ankle patches that displayed the Converse All Star logo, however, no commissions were made after lending his name to the company.
In its early days, the All-Stars were available in 3 designs… 1) A monochromatic shoe with a black canvas upper and black rubber soles, 2) an all white shoe with blue and red trim, and 3) an all black leather and rubber shoe. The shoe was redesigned again after World War II where they added toe guards, laces and outer wraps white, which transformed into the iconic black and white Converse All-Stars of today.
Fast forward to 2017, Converse are now available in plenty of colours, designs and stylings. Rappers who have rocked All Starts include Ice-Cube, Drake, Lil Wayne, Game and even Jay-Z. But when it comes to Converse there is no one crazier than Wiz Khalifa. The hip-hop star was soo obsessed with the famous footwear that he now has his own collection called… (wait for it)… “Chuck Taylor All Star Wiz Khalifa”. The collection features 12 new styles which represent the artist’s rebellious style.
However, his love for the brand doesn’t stop there. He even has his own record label called Taylor Gang Records. This includes the likes of TY Dolla $ign, Chevy Woods and Project Pat. In a couple of his songs he does reference Converses, “Gucci, Chuck Tays, I don’t f*** with no Prada” – Shame (2009). I see he’s been doing a little name dropping there too!
So there you have it. Converses are everywhere! The Converse is an all-time classic and is a favourite among hip-hop heads. What about you? Do you like the All-Stars?
