We’ve been trying to bring fresh and brave sounds from the underground to a vast audience of Hip-Hop from day one. For 2017, we’ve have some different and big plans that we can’t reveal for now. One of those ideas was to push Chennai’s Hip-Hop scene forward by releasing a collaborative mixtape that features city’s most underrated and skilled artists. It’s possible that their names might sound new to you but that was the idea that we liked. It’s our first project that’s coming out this year & we promise to surprise you in future too.
Chennai city’s first collaborative tape ‘Lessons‘ is coming out tomorrow on our website and you should not sleep on this project. Why? Because it’s a multilingual project that features verses in Tamil, Hindi and English. Four rap artists on the beats produced by a single producer.
This project features rap artists like King ND, MC Ddm, AJ and MC GO Dravidan on the instrumentals produced by Adithya Bhat at Clown Media Services. Obviously, we can’t disclose how each and every track is different from the other one but one thing that Adithya confirmed in his live session through our website’s Facebook page today is that this project has an Old-Skool feel in it. It’s a blend of several famous Boom-Bap producers’ styles and we promise that you’re going to love ‘Lessons‘ even if there’s a linguistic barrier for you in it.
In each of their individual interviews that we conducted, one thing that every artist promised was to spread knowledge through Hip-Hop. King ND said, “Not everyone is going to understand Tamil but I’m sure you will be able to make a connection is some way or another”. MC GO Dravidan simplified it by saying “Hip-Hop heads should expect different recipes from this mixtape”. AJ said, “It’s a guide that will simplify your journey in this game”. Ddm suggested that this tape is all about the importance of a microphone in rap world while Adithya said: “It’s all about lyricism, musicality and culture as a whole which defines South Indian Hip-Hop”. Too much information already. Right? No.
This tape features six tracks that are going to amaze you. I literally loved each track from this tape but the track that left my mouth open was ‘Chennai City‘. I don’t understand Tamil at all but it’s my jam these days. Once this project comes out, we’ll drop another surprise that’s related to this whole collaborative collection.
Shout outs to KING ND who took the initiative of creating this tape. Everything that happened came out after his initial efforts. Write your ideas and your visions towards Hip-Hop and send them to us. If you’ve the right thing, we have the right plans.
