Badshah Recalls His Journey To Success


Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, popularly known by his stage name ‘ Badshah’ doesn’t need an introduction. He is one of the best in the game right now and is known for his Hindi, Haryanvi and Punjabi chart topping songs. He started his career in 2006 alongside rapper ‘Yo Yo Honey Singh’ in the group ‘Mafia Mundeer’. In the year 2012, due to some unavoidable disputes with Honey, he left Mafia Mundeer and decided to work as a solo artist. As a solo artist, he gained spontaneous popularity amongst the youth.

Although, he has a great music career now, initially he didn’t have a great time while convincing his parents for his professional choice. An engineer turned rapper, the Desi Hip Hop star recalls his journey for us

According to an interview given to a newspaper, Badshah says, “When I first told my parents that I want to be a rapper, they asked me, Yeh rap hota kya hai?’. To make them understand I showed them a music video featuring 50 Cent. That didn’t turn out to be in my favor, as it has an obscene video,” he adds,” After looking at this video, they told me ‘Beta pehle bade ho jao, phir jo karna ho vo kar lena’. It was very hard to convince them”.

Badshah went to St. Stephens, Delhi for one month but shifted to an engineering college to study Civil Engineering. Before venturing into the music scene he reveals that he had a job as a civil engineer but he never really liked it much. He says that he was always a musician who happened to be a civil engineer. Music was his only passion.

His music has been featured in several Bollywood soundtracks for films such Bajrangi Bhaijan (2015), Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania (2014), Khoobsurat (2014). He has also collaborated with artists such as Gippy Grewal, Manj Musik, Diljit Dosanjh and Aastha Gill to name a few. His single, “DJ Waley Babu” was ranked #3 within 24 hours of its release. The song also crossed a million views on Youtube within 30 hours. In 2016,  he collaborated with Inder on Wakhra Swag which won the 2016 Punjabi Music Awards for best duo/group and most popular song of the year.

After all the ups and downs, Badshah is now one of the most popular and in-demand rappers and is still active in the underground music scene by supporting it. From underground to the mainstream to Bollywood and now to judging a TV show with Karan Johar and others, it is sure that there is no stopping for him!
